Holiday Programming at Vancity Theatre

This holiday season, don’t miss the favourites It’s a Wonderful Life, and The Muppet Christmas Carol screening at Vancity Theatre.

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946), originally made for Liberty Films, is one of the most popular and heartwarming films ever made by director Frank Capra. Fun Fact: It was actually a box-office flop at the time of its release, and only became the Christmas movie classic in the 1970s due to repeated television showings at Christmas-time when its copyright protection slipped, and it fell into the public domain allowing TV stations could air it for free. The picture earned five Academy Award nominations: Best Picture, Best Actor (James Stewart), Best Director (Capra), Best Sound Recording and Best Film Editing.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is the fourth feature film to star the Muppets, and the first produced after the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson. Released in 1992, it was one of many film adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Gonzo, claiming to be Dickens himself, narrates the story, with the help of Rizzo the Rat. Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge, with Muppets taking the rest of the parts — including Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim, and Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig.
