VIFF 2018 Films Showered With Oscar Nominations

After months of speculation, nominations for the 91st Academy Awards dropped this morning, with Alfonso Cuaron’s black-and-white epic Roma (now screening at Vancity Theatre) and Yorgos Lanthimos’ regal comedy-drama The Favourite (VIFF 2018) leading the pack with 10 nods each.

Also nominated for best picture are A Star Is Born, Green Book, BlacKkKlansman(screening Feb 25 at Vancity Theatre for Black History Month), Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice and Black Panther – which becomes the first superhero film to be shortlisted in the category.

We’re thrilled to see some VIFF 2018 and Vancity Theatre favourites amongst the list of nominees, including Cold War, Mirai, Capernaum, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, First Reformed and ShopliftersCanadian short animation Animal Behaviour, Fauve,  First Reformed, A Quiet Place,Minding the Gap, as well as Hale County This Morning This Evening, which will screen February 4 at Vancity Theatre, as a part of Black History Month.

Oscar Nominated Shorts at Vancity Theatre: February 8 – 28

Each year the Vancity Theatre is proud to present the nominees for the Academy Award for Best Short Film in the Live Action and Animation categories. Between February 8 – 28, there are plenty of chances to catch them!
