How to VIFF – Your Questions Answered!

With the 2015 Vancouver International Film Festival just over a week away, we hope you are just as excited as we are to kick off the festival! That being said, whether you are a VIFF old timer, or a total newbie – you we’re sure you still have a couple of burning questions you need answered.

With tickets going quickly for the upcoming films, be sure to get your tickets in advance online at If the interwebs are not your thing (we’re curious how you’re reading this) then stop by Vancity Theatre from Saturday the 12th from noon, and our lovely Box Office staff will be happy to help you purchase a ticket in person. Additionally, it is required by law to purchase the annual $2 membership fee. This fee exists because under the laws of our province, only registered non-profit film societies such as VIFF are allowed to screen films that have not been classified by Consumer Protection BC.  Only members are permitted to be present at the place where a non-classified film is being exhibited, hence you have to become a member in order to get your VIFF on!!!

What if I don’t want to buy a ticket online, or in advance?

We will have limited tickets available at the door and highly recommend purchasing your selected screening in advance. Our first film sold out in 20 minutes after our website went live just to give you an idea of how quickly some of the tickets go – like hot potatoes!

What’s with all the lines?

Showtimes for VIFF are always a busy time and there are sure to be lengthy lineups. Each VIFF screening will have three distinct lines: 1) the pass holder line: this line is for those with special passes around their necks (they’ll be easy to spot), 2) the ticket holders line: this is for film goers who have already purchased their ticket for the screening and have a hard ticket in hand or on their smartphone, and 3) the rush line: this line is for standby tickets for screenings that are sold out. Rush tickets will go on sale 10 minutes before show time. Our best advice is to arrive at least 25 minutes before a screening in order to get through the line and to make sure you have the best seat in the house, next to all your friends!
